ESPY Awards 2014: Floyd Mayweather beats out Jon Jones and Ronda Rousey to take home 'Fighter of the Year' (again)

"Money" continues to be king of the combat sports world.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. piled on the hardware last night (July 16, 2014) as the pound-for-pound king of boxing took home the 2014 ESPY Award for "Fighter of the Year," beating out fellow pugilists Manny Pacquiao, Andrew Ward, and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) titleholders Jon Jones and Ronda Rousey.

Mayweather 1, Rousey 0.

Floyd began another successful (and highly-lucrative) year by beating Marcos Maidana in a very entertaining fight this past May (video), defeating the Argentinian via majority decision. "Money" looks to cap the year off on a high note when he rematches "Chino" on Sept., 13, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

For those of you keeping count, that's now the sixth time Mayweather has won the award, taking home the trophy in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and now 2014.

UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman also lost his bid to capture the "Upset of the Year" with his win(s) over Anderson Silva, losing out to Mercer's upset victory over the heavily-favored Duke squad on their own home court in the NCAA tournament.

While mixed martial arts (MMA) once again played second fiddle to boxing at the ESPY awards, as far as "Fighter of the Year" is concerned, UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made sure the sport didn't go home empty-handed.

"Rowdy" added another first to her resume, as she became the first MMA fighter to ever win an ESPY, beating out Mikaela Shiffrin (2014 Winter Olympics), Breanna Stewart (Connecticut women's basketball) and Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx basketball star) to take home the "Female Athlete of the Year" award.

Do you know her now?

Unfortunately, Rousey was unable to accept the award in person, as she had undergone knee surgery the day before.
