RIO DE JANEIRO -- As Jungle Fight 28 unfolded on Saturday at the Flamengo Rowing Club, Francisco “Massaranduba” Drinaldo knocked out Strikeforce veteran Derrick Burnsed at 54 seconds of the second round to claim the promotion’s interim lightweight title.

Trained by Brazilian Fabio “Pateta” Prado at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, Calif., Burnsed landed in Brazil with one only loss, but will return to the U.S. with a brutal knockout loss as a gift “Massaranduba.”

The Brazilian lightweight prospect used heavy punches to damage his opponent, who himself showed flashes of brilliance at times with precisely-executed head kicks. Well prepared, Drinaldo stopped Burnsed’s takedowns and controlled the pace. At the beginning of the second round, “Massaranduba” showed excellent timing with a one-two that cracked his prey on the jaw and sealed his third consecutive victory.

“I think was a good fight, but I can do better,” said Drinaldo. “I trained a lot, but, next time I’ll back to show another great performance.”

As confirmed by Jungle Fight promoter Wallid Ismail, Drinaldo now will meet Adriano Martins to fight for the definitive crown at a tentative July date.

Marcelo “Magrao” Guimaraes used his solid wrestling plus and an improved muay Thai game to defeat Lyoto Machida training partner Ildemar “Marajo” Alcantara by unanimous decision. Combining good mat skills and heavy ground-and-pound, he bested the brother of UFC newcomer Yuri Alcantara with a dominant performance.

Lineker knocked Salgado out cold.

Exactly one month after crushing Renato Velame at Jungle Fight 27, bantamweight prospect John Lineker secured his 11th win in a row with a slick knockout of Luiz “Salgadinho” Carlos Salgado at 1:11 of the opening period. Lineker honored his nickname “Hammer Hands” (Maos de Pedra, in Portuguese) to overcome a large height disadvantage.

Known for his brutal low kicks, Bruno Capelosa pieced together his second straight win by surprising Jackson Mora with head kicks and flying knees to setup a sequence of five punches that ejected his opponent’s mouth piece and closed his eyes for the evening. The official time of the stellar knockout was 4:28 of round one.

Also at Jungle Fight 28, Iliarde Sabino Belo dos Santos scored a technical knockout (Cut) against Armando Gomes at 2:30 of the second stanza; Douglas Moura rear-naked choked Silvio Jose at 0:36 of round two; William Baudutte decisioned (unanimous) “Leo Gigante” Nascimento.
