Maximum Fighting Championship recently had its MFC 30: Up Close & Personal main event title fight blown apart when Hermes Franca was released from his contract with the promotion. Franca was due to fight Drew Fickett for the vacant MFC lightweight championship.

Fickett still heads the fight card and is currently the promotion’s top lightweight contender, but he now faces MFC newcomer Brian Cobb in a three-round, non-title affair on June 10 at the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

MFC officials on Thursday announced signing Cobb to a multi-fight contract and plugging him into the MFC 30 main event.

“I am very excited about this match-up,” said Mark Pavelich, MFC Owner/President. “Brian Cobb is someone who has been on our radar for some time, and I think this is the perfect time to bring him in.

“I believe he and Drew Fickett will put on a tremendous showcase of their skills, which will make for a dynamic and entertaining fight.”

Fickett (41-13) is a UFC veteran that went through tremendous turmoil in 2009, losing five consecutive fights. He has since bounced back with five victories in his last five tries, emerging as the MFC’s top lightweight contender.

Cobb (18-6) is a submission specialist, winning 12 of his 18 victories by tapout. He is also a UFC veteran with a decorated background in wrestling.

Franca was released following his arrest stemming from allegations of Sexual Abuse, and for breach of contract for fighting outside of the organization.

“These are serious allegations that he is facing and I do not want the Maximum Fighting Championship associated in any way with these matters,” said Pavelich.

Fickett and Cobb headline MFC 30 on June 10. The co-main event features a battle between veterans Pete Spratt and Marcus Davis. The event airs live on HDNet at 10 p.m. ET.
