Donald Cerrone ready for next fight, and Michael Johnson is willing opponent

After a recent and quick title loss, Donald Cerrone says he’ll soon have his next fight. He also has a willing opponent.

Cerrone (28-7 MMA, 15-4 UFC) suffered a 66-second TKO loss to lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos (25-7 MMA, 14-5 UFC) earlier this month in UFC on FOX 17’s headliner.

On Tuesday, Cerrone, who snapped an eight-fight winning streak with the title loss, said he’s ready to fight again and that announcement will be made soon (via Instagram):

Earlier today, Johnson (16-10 MMA, 8-6 UFC), who suffered a decision loss to Nate Diaz (18-10 MMA, 13-8 UFC) in a “Fight of the Night” performance at the same event, said he wants to make a quick turnaround like Cerrone – and against Cerrone (via Twitter):

The fighters are obviously on the same fight/camp schedule because of their UFC on FOX 17 bouts, and UFC officials generally match up winning fighters with winning fighters and losing fighters with other competitors coming off defeats, so Cerrone vs. Johnson would make sense in that regard.

The fighters also aren’t too far apart in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings, where Cerrone is No. 6 and Johnson is No. 12 (Cerrone is No. 3 and Johnson is No. 6 in the UFC’s official rankings),
