Despite Mangled Toe, Uriah Hall Tastes Victory at UFC 175

Uriah Hall needed only nine toes to defeat Thiago Santos at UFC 175 in Las Vegas.

Following consecutive split-decision losses against Kelvin Gastelum and John Howard, Hall parlayed his victory against Chris Leben at UFC 168 in December with a performance worth seeing, besting Santos on all three judges’ scorecards (29-28, 29-28, and 30-27) with a nasty toe injury to his right foot.

During a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, the Team Tiger Schulmann-fighter explained that he felt the ailment over the course of the middleweight contest.

“I definitely did,” Hall said, with a bone clearly protruding his skin alongside a horribly disfigured toe as he spoke. “Every moment, I would feel my bone shifting out of my skin.”

Despite the Nevada Athletic Commission’s doctors incessantly checking out the injury, Hall and his corner emphatically conveyed their desire to continue.

“If you're not going after your dreams, you just exist,” Hall said. “You don't want to just exist; you want to get the most out of life.”
