dennis-bermudez-8.jpgA bout between a pair of surging featherweights has made its way onto the UFC’s Memorial Day weekend card.

Dennis Bermudez (10-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will meet Max Holloway (7-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at UFC 160 in May. UFC officials announced the new fight booking  late Wednesday.

UFC 160 takes place May 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and features a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Bermudez vs. Holloway will be part of the prelims.

Bermudez, the Season 14 featherweight runner-up on “The Ultimate Fighter,” is riding a three-fight win streak since his TUF 14 Finale loss to Diego Brandao. To go with the three straight, Bermudez has back-to-back fight-night bonus awards. At UFC 157 this past month, Bermudez picked up a “Fight of the Night” bonus in his split-decision win over Matt Grice. At UFC 150 in August, a first-round guillotine choke of Tommy Hayden got him “Submission of the Night” honors.

Holloway, meanwhile, has three straight wins of his own. In December at UFC 155, he took a split decision from Leonard Garcia to give him a 3-1 first year in the UFC. After dropping his promotional debut to Dustin Poirier in a short-notice fight at UFC 143, the Hawaiian outpointed Pat Schilling at the TUF 15 Finale and then stopped Justin Lawrence with a second-round TKO at UFC 150 before beating Garcia at the end of the year.

The latest UFC 160 card now includes:

  • Champ Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva – for heavyweight title
  • Junior dos Santos vs. Mark Hunt
  • James Te Huna vs. Glover Teixeira
  • T.J. Grant vs. Gray Maynard
  • Donald Cerrone vs. KJ Noons
  • Gunnar Nelson vs. Mike Pyle
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Abel Trujillo
  • Amir Sadollah vs. Stephen Thompson
  • Colton Smith vs. Robert Whittaker
  • Estevan Payan vs. Jeremy Stephens
  • Dennis Bermudez vs. Max Holloway

But don't expect "The Menace" (or this guy) to go full-WWE just to build some hype. Streaking Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight Dennis Bermudez has been setting the 145-pound division on fire, racking up six straight wins, including a technical knockout victory over Jim Hettes at the UFC 171 pay-per-view (PPV) last March. And nobody seems to give a shit. Probably because they're too starstruck by Irish sensation Conor McGregor, who dazzled Fight Pass fans last Saturday (July 19, more

UFC featherweight Dennis Bermudez revealed that he is 'slightly jealous' of Conor McGregor's recent success and starpower. While many featherweights have shown bitter disregard for Conor McGregor and his recent octagon success, Dennis Bermudez is one of the few who admits that the Irishman's starpower has him "slightly jealous." "I really don't care what he's doing," Bermudez told Submission Radio. "He can run his mouth all he wants, and I actually, my hat slightly goes off to him to be able to more

Whether or not you've been paying attention, Dennis Bermudez has won six straight fights. His most recent victory, a one-sided mauling of Jimy Hettes, finally inched Bermudez's name into the UFC's official top-15, but only barely. He used to reside at No. 11, though on Monday the man with the division's best non-title winning streak got bumped down to No. 12, another causality of the rise of the Irish. The good thing, at least, is that Bermudez almost instantly has a chance to remind folks he ex more

Because being popular and famous seems to be what gets you into the MMA spotlight these days, as opposed to extended winning streaks. As Conor McGregor can attest to -- much to the chagrin of Dennis Bermudez -- being popular pretty much trumps being a good fighter, as far as getting your time in the mixed martial arts (MMA) spotlight is concerned. Of course, it doesn't hurt if you can do this to your opponents, either. Still, being popular or talking a good game, it seems, is the way to get ahea more
