The promotion announced on Wednesday that Demian Maia will face Mike Pyle in a welterweight clash, while Francis Carmont will square off with Thales Leites at 185 pounds. UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. dos Anjos” takes place at the BOK Center and is headlined by a lightweight showdown between Benson Henderson and Rafael dos Anjos.
A former middleweight title challenger, Maia is 4-2 since dropping to 170 pounds. Most recently, the Brazilian grappling ace halted a two-fight skid with a unanimous verdict over Alexander Yakovlev at “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3” finale on May 31.
Pyle, 38, has experienced a late-career resurgence, winning five of his last six Octagon appearances. “Quicksand” scored a third-round TKO against T.J. Waldburger in his last outing at UFC 170.
Carmont climbed into the 185-pound Top 10 on the strength of six straight wins to begin his UFC tenure. However, back-to-back losses to Ronaldo Souza and C.B. Dollaway have slowed the momentum of the Tristar Gym product.
After a four-year hiatus from the Octagon, Leites has won three straight upon his return to the Las Vegas-based organization, besting Tom Watson, Ed Herman and Trevor Smith in succession.
