One bout’s recent cancellation has opened the door for a new televised fight at this month’s UFC on FOX 10 event.
UFC officials on Wednesday announced that Russian newcomer Oleksiy Oliynyk (2-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has suffered an injury and been forced out of a heavyweight bout with Jared Rosholt (9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC).
As a result, lightweights Daron Cruickshank (13-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Mike Rio (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) have been promoted from the UFC Fight Pass online preliminary card to the televised prelims on FOX Sports 1.
UFC on FOX 10 takes place Jan. 25 at United Center in Chicago. The main card airs on FOX.
Cruickshank, a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 15,” suffered a submission loss to Adriano Martins at UFC Fight Night 32 in November. The setback came after a split-decision win over Yves Edwards and a unanimous-decision loss to John Makdessi, making him 1-2 in 2013 after starting his UFC career 2-0.
Rio, also a “TUF 15? vet, is likely in a must-win situation following back-to-back submission losses to Francisco Trinaldo and Tony Ferguson. He started his career 9-1, including a win over John Cofer in his UFC debut.
The official UFC on FOX 10 card now includes:
MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX Sports 1, 5 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC Fight Pass, 4:30 p.m. ET)
