Danny Downes and Tiequan Zhang - WEC 53

Jonathan Brookins might want to call Amir Sadollah pretty soon because the two fighters are starting to follow a similar path after winning the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ reality show.

For the 2nd time in a row, Brookins has been forced out of a scheduled fight due to an injury, and late replacement Danny ‘Boy’ Downes will step in to face Jeremy Stephens at the ‘Ultimate Fighter’ season 13 finale show on June 4.

The UFC made the official announcement about the switch on Tuesday.

Downes is a fighter who always seems to answer the door when opportunity knocks. He made his debut in the WEC on less than a week’s notice to face Chris Horodecki.

While he came up short in that fight, Downes bounced back strong taking out Tiequan Zhang, before taking a one off fight outside the UFC just last week in Wisconsin where he submitted Tory Bogguess in the first round of their match-up.

Now Downes steps in to face one of the heaviest punchers in the lightweight division in Jeremy Stephens.

As for Brookins, the nature of his injury is unknown, but he’s still awaiting his official UFC debut after winning season 12 of the reality show in December 2010.

Check out the bout order for the TUF 19 Finale on Sunday, which is headlined by a 3rd meeting between Frankie Edgar and B.J. Penn. It is not my place to talk about the quality of TUF 19, because the only episode I watched was Cathal Pendred versus Eddie Gordon, and I don't need to see it again. However, everyone else from Joe Beerbelly to Dana White has derided the quality of this season's cast, and the end result is that only a handful of fighters (including Pendred for the Ireland show) are ge more

As many as eight mixed martial artists may be fighting just to hold on to a spot in the UFC, including former champ B.J. Penn. Addle-brained rationale follows... Well, as far as months to take over The Cut List go, July was maybe a foolhardy choice. Not even a week in and we've already got two UFC events, which isn't even half of all UFC events scheduled for this month. Do all these events mean that fighters will get more leniency after a losing effort? Or does it suggest that the UFC is filling more

See who the Bloody Elbow staff is picking for Sunday's TUF 19 Finale at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar Mookie Alexander: For all intents and purposes, it's 1-1 heading into the 3rd fight, because scoring the 1st fight for Edgar MUCH LESS 50-45 is criminal. Alas, the record stands as 2-0 and the 2nd fight made it abundantly clear how much better Edgar has become compared to Penn. Unless Edgar has hit a sharp decline or Penn really is rejuvenated on the 19 more
