Daniel Swain Happy to Have XFC Behind Him, Looking Forward to Friday’s Debut

Following the second loss of his career, in May of last year to current M-1 fighter Lee Morrison, bantamweight prospect Daniel “Agent Orange” Swain got back on track and is currently riding a multi-fight winning streak.

The reason for Swain’s success comes from the fact that when he returned to his native Spokane, Wash., from college in Canada, he needed to find a new gym, and has done so 30 minutes away in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.

“I switched gyms last October to Trevor Prangley’s AKA and since then I’ve been on a four-fight winning streak,” said Swain. “I can’t complain. I’ve got great coaches and great training partners now. I’ve really been coming together as a fighter. So it’s been a great year.”

In Prangley, Swain sees a veteran version of himself, and thus he has benefited greatly from his elder statesman’s tutelage.

“Just having someone who’s been around the game for some time and experienced so many levels of the sport, it’s tremendous,” said Swain. “Trevor’s a great coach and knows so much about the sport that it’s really helping to build my style of fighting.”

Swain’s recent success was rewarded with a multi-fight contract with the XFC. Swain (10-2) will make his promotional debut this Friday against veteran J.P. Reese (10-7) in a feature bantamweight bout from Muskegon, Mich.

“J.P. wasn’t my original opponent, but he’s definitely a tough guy,” Swain told MMAWeekly.com. “He’s not someone I’m overlooking, but the thing is, I’m not going to stop until I beat him.

“I know he’s got a great wrestling background; so do I. So wrestling is probably not going to be the key in the fight; it’s going to come from the striking. I think I have an edge in the striking, so that’s where I’m going to beat him.”

After bouncing around from promotion to promotion over the course of his three-year career, having a multi-fight deal with the XFC and a home for immediate future will only be a benefit to Swain as he continues to grow his career in 2014.

“Having a one-fight deal with a promotion, it doesn’t feel like the promotion is really behind you, but when you have a multi-fight contract, you feel there is some confidence behind you and they want to build you up and get you to the next level,” he said. “So it’s great to have the XFC behind me and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
