Dana White responds to Nate Diaz tweet about skipping TUF 18 Finale for reunion

This time, if Nate Diaz is being legit, he might not have his boss convinced of it just yet.

Diaz on Monday tweeted that he wasn’t planning on being at his next fight, against two-time lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard at the TUF 18 Finale, so he could attend his class reunion.

“Cant make it november 30th ive gotta high school reuinion i have to tend too…,” the 28-year-old Diaz wrote on Twitter.

The TUF 18 Finale takes place Nov. 30 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas with a main card on FOX Sports 1. Diaz vs. Maynard is expected to be part of that main card, and it will be the third time the pair will have fought. On Season 5 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Diaz submitted Maynard – though that fight is not an official bout on the fighters’ records. Their first official fight went to Maynard with a split decision at UFC Fight Night 20 nearly four years ago.

On Tuesday, UFC President Dana White told a small group of reporters in Las Vegas that he’s not necessarily buying into Diaz’s Twitter story.

“I’m shocked,” White said with more than a hint of sarcasm. “The Diaz Brothers are doing something crazy? I’m shocked. I heard about it yesterday. Somebody told me about it. But I haven’t talked to (UFC matchmaker) Joe (Silva) or Nate or anybody. I don’t even know if it’s true.

“I didn’t even know Nate did this, that he tweeted it. Did he talk to Joe Silva? If he really tweeted that he’s going to his high school reunion and didn’t call Joe and those guys and say (anything) … I don’t take Twitter for news. It’s not an official statement.”

Diaz hasn’t tweeted since raising a few eyebrows with the high school reunion message. But it might be safe to assume that Maynard isn’t calling the UFC asking who his new opponent is going to be.
