Dana White Confirms John Dodson Gets First Crack at UFC Flyweight Champ

John Dodson may have won the fourteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter as a bantamweight, but as soon as he did, he knew he would immediately return to his more natural weight class of flyweight.

Friday night at UFC on FX 5 in Minnesota, Dodson justified his reasoning for the quick return to 125 pounds by beating one of the top fighters in the world at that weight, Jussier “Formiga” da Silva, securing a shot at the UFC title.

UFC president Dana White at the post-fight press conference confirmed that Dodson is next up for UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. He didn’t say when the fight would happen, but did comment that they are “two of the fastest guys ever in the UFC.”

Dodson agreed, saying, “It’s gonna be a fun fight for me. I just can’t wait for me and Mighty Mouse to fight. It’s gonna be fun. It’s gonna be explosive.”

The Jackson-Winkeljohn trained fighter, although he insisted prior to the da Silva fight that he wasn’t looking past anyone, already has a super-secret plan in mind for how to take the belt away from Johnson.

“I’ve seen that fight happen probably a thousand or a million times in my own head,” Dodson commented. “I’ve watched plenty of videos on him. I’m just not gonna give you guys my secret yet. I’ll let you guys see it when it happens.”
