Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2 Possible for UFC 200; Are You Buying?

Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2 Possible for UFC 200; Are You Buying?

If the plan comes together, it appears that the UFC 200 headliner could be the same bout that headlined UFC 196. In essence, it appears that Conor McGregor wants to take a mulligan on his loss to Nate Diaz.

Despite the super fight between McGregor, the UFC featherweight champion, and lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos falling apart at the last minute, the McGregor vs. Diaz headlined UFC 196 took the Ultimate Fighting Championship into record territory on many fronts. At the very least, it was a tremendous success.

UFC president Dana White, in an interview on ESPN’s Max & Marcellus, said, “In this sport, we put the best against the best, or sometimes we do crazy stuff like (UFC 196), where Conor McGregor says ‘I want to fight Nate Diaz. These are things that capture people’s imaginations. That is why the thing does 1.5 million PPV buys. That is because it captures the imaginations of fight fans.”

The UFC is close to finalizing a non-title welterweight rematch between McGregor and Diaz to headline UFC 200, according to MMAFighting.com sources. UFC 200 is being built as the promotion’s blockbuster for 2016. It will take place on July 9 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor started off strong in the UFC 196 headliner, but eventually succumbed to Diaz’s endless onslaught of punches and rear-naked choke finish.

Although McGregor was gracious in defeat, it appears the UFC wants a rerun of the fight, and feels it is big enough to headline UFC 200. The question now is if it is the fight that fans want to see?
