Conor McGregor Offered to Fight Dustin Poirier, Save UFC Dublin

Conor McGregor Offered to Fight Dustin Poirier, Save UFC Dublin

When the news broke that Joseph Duffy had suffered a concussion during a recent sparring session and was medically unfit for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night Dublin main event against Dustin Poirier, interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor offered to step in as Duffy’s replacement… for a price.

Conor McGregor“The Notorious” went on Twitter following the announcement and said he’d be willing to give Poirier a rematch. The two fought at UFC 178 in September 2014 with McGregor scoring a first-round technical knockout over “The Diamond.” So there was no trepidation on his part to offer a rematch, although we all know that the UFC was unlikely to pull the trigger on such a bout.

McGregor also took a shot at Duffy, the last fighter to defeat him. Duffy holds a submission win over the Irishman from a Cage Warriors bout back in 2010.

The fight promotion was unable to secure a replacement for Duffy and opted to move the co-main event between Ireland’s Paddy Holohan and Louis Smolka to the top of the fight card.

McGregor is scheduled to face champion Jose Aldo on Dec. 12 in a featherweight title unification bout in the UFC 194 main event in Las Vegas.
