Conor McGregor Addresses His UFC 205 Post-Fight Bombshell | MMAWeekly.com

“It’s something completely out of left field.” That’s how UFC president Dana White kicked off a firestorm of rumors about Conor McGregor‘s future.

During a stint of media rounds, White mentioned an “big announcement” that McGregor was going to make following his fight against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 next week in New York City.

While he could have simply been alluding to what McGregor would do should he win a second championship belt – White has stated that he won’t be allowed to keep both – the bosses remark sounded much more ominous than that.

Conor-McGregor-UFC-202-750x370-05One of the chief rumors floating around, fueled primarily by a couple of Irish publications, is that McGregor was going to take a break from fighting, perhaps taking off the entirety of 2017. Although McGregor didn’t specifically shoot down that idea in a UFC 205 media call, he cast doubt upon it.

“They don’t know (expletive) about me or what I’m doing. Stay tuned to what I’m announcing, but don’t be listening to people like that. People like that know nothing that’s got to do with what’s going on here. I’ll reveal all in time,” the brash Irishman stated.

“I don’t even know whether you can take time off with this life. I just stay working, stay creating history, stay changing the game. That’s what I’ve been doing since day one. Now, here we are, close to the New York debut, Madison Square Garden.”

That certainly doesn’t sound like someone who has plans to walk away from the millions of dollars that he earns per fight. In fact, as he recited the records that are already falling before he even steps into the Octagon at UFC 205, McGregor sounds more like he might have plans to go bigger than he already has.

“We broke the Ali vs. Frazier attendance of 21,000, I believe. I’m hearing that. We broke the gate record of $14 million set by Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield. So they’re two amazing contests, two historical fights, and I’ve broken both. It’s an honor to do that, and that’s it,” he said.

“I’ll just continue changing the game, continue breaking records, continue striving to put this game on the next level like I have been doing from day one. That’s my plans.”
