His place in mixed martial arts history secure, Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva will now look to add to his legacy at the expense of an unbeaten challenger.

Silva tipped the scales at 184 pounds for his five-round title defense against Chris Weidman (185) in the UFC 162 main event on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Featherweight co-headliners Frankie Edgar (146) and Charles Oliveira (144) also met their mandated weight requirements without incident at Friday’s official weigh-in.

The incomparable Silva has rattled off 17 consecutive victories, 15 of them finishes, and has held the 185-pound crown for nearly seven years. The 38-year-old Brazilian last appeared at UFC 153 in October, when he railroaded an overmatched Stephan Bonnar with a first-round knee strike and follow-up punches at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. One of the sport’s most feared and proven finishers, Silva has secured 26 of his 33 professional wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission. He is a perfect 16-0 since entering the UFC in June 2006.

Weidman was a four-time collegiate wrestling All-American at Nassau Community College and Hofstra University before transitioning to MMA under the guidance of former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and striking coach Ray Longo. The 29-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt has risen quickly in the 185-pound division, backed by a potent ground game and improving standup. Weidman, who has compiled a 5-0 mark inside the Octagon, underwent shoulder surgery in November and has not competed in nearly a year.

UFC 162 “Silva vs. Weidman” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- will also feature a pivotal featherweight scrap pairing Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts export Cub Swanson (144) with Dennis Siver (145), along with a pair of middleweight bouts, as Tim Kennedy (186) locks horns with 10-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Roger Gracie (186) and Reign MMA’s Mark Munoz (185) meets Tim Boetsch (186).

Two hours prior, the FX network will carry four preliminary matchups: Chris Leben (186) vs. Andrew Craig (186), Norman Parke (156) vs. Kazuki Tokudome (155), Gabriel Gonzaga (262) vs. Dave Herman (242) and Edson Barboza (155) vs. Rafaello Oliveira (155). The two remaining undercard fights will stream to the UFC’s Facebook page at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, as “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 11 graduate Seth Baczynski (170) confronts Brian Melancon (170) and Mike Pierce (171) battles Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance’s David Mitchell (171).
