ONE Championship bantamweight titleholder Bibiano Fernandes is set for his next title defense.
Fernandes (18-3), who’s ranked No. 6 in the MMAjunkie/USA TODAY Sports MMA bantamweight rankings, is slated to fight challenger Kevin Belingon (13-4) at “ONE Championship 36: Dynasty of Champions,” officials today announced.
The event takes place Jan. 23 at Changsha Stadium in Changsha, Hunan, China. It streams as online pay-per-view in North America.
Fernandes, a 35-year-old Brazilian, carries a 10-fight winning streak into the fight, where the jiu-jitsu specialist attempts his fourth consecutive title defense. After winning the interim title and then unifying it with a victory over then-champ Soo Chul Kim, the former DREAM titleholder has posted title defenses over Masakatsu Ueda, Dae Hwan Kim and Toni Tauru.
He now meets Belingon, who’s just 4-4 with ONE Championship, though three of the victories have come via highlight-reel knockout. The 28-year-old Filipino fighter most recently scored a unanimous-decision victory over Koetsu Okazaki in December 2014.
The co-headliner features Li Kai Wen (4-2) vs. fellow Chinese prospect Yang Sen (2-0). Both fighters won past Beijing featherweight tournaments and are likely to help pull in local fans.
