Cage Warriors 56 set for July 6 in London, including Omoyele vs. del Guerra

Cage Warriors 56 is set for July 6 at The Forum in London, and the card is starting to take shape.

The recently signed Bola Omoyele (6-1) will meet Vincent del Guerra (20-8) in a welterweight bout on the main card, Cage Warriors officials have announced. Both fighters will be making their promotional debuts. Also on the main card will be a middleweight clash between Brett Bassett (8-3) and Denniston Sutherland (19-9).

Omoyele was one of four U.K. welterweights on the UFC’s second international edition of “The Ultimate Fighter,” which featured competitors from Australia and the U.K. against each other. The season filmed and aired this past fall. In the season’s fifth episode, Omoyele was stopped by Manny Rodriguez with a first-round north-south choke.

Omoyele, whose training includes American Top Team, officially has won five straight fights with four by TKO and another by submission due to strikes. All six of his wins are by stoppage from strikes. Omoyele’s lone loss came by second-round TKO more than three years ago to Carl Noon in his second pro fight.

“I’m excited like a child to be finally getting into the cage again and showcasing my skill set,” Omoyele stated. “Vincent is going to have his work cut out for him.”

del Guerra, from France, is just 23 – but will be fighting for the 29th time professionally. Of his 20 wins, 17 have come by stoppage with nine submissions and eight knockouts. He has won three straight and seven of his past eight fights.

“This is a very big opportunity for me,” del Guerra stated. “I will put on a great fight with my opponent and show everyone that I’m one of the most dangerous welterweights in Europe.”

Bassett will return from injury and fight for the first time since a September knockout of Mike Ling at Cage Warriors Fight Night 7. That fight got him back in the win column after a loss to Brett Sizeland at Cage Warriors 45. He has won three of his past four bouts.

Sutherland in April picked up a split-decision win over Ben Callum under the Ultimate Challenge MMA banner. In December, he dropped a unanimous decision to Scott Askham at Cage Warriors 50. But he, too, has won three of his past four.

Three fights have been booked for the night’s preliminary card, as well. Fabio Ferrari (5-2) and Brett Sizeland (6-2) meet at middleweight bout; Brad Wheeler (9-9) takes on Jason Cooledge (8-4) at lightweight; and while unbeaten featherweights Chad Griffiths (4-0) and Arnold Allen (3-0) square off in their Cage Warriors debuts.
