Brian Ebersole Steps In After UFC 149 Suffers From Another Injured Fighter

In what is becoming a daily ritual, UFC officials on Tuesday announced that another fighter has had to drop off the UFC 149 fight card slated for Calgary.

Canadian Claude Patrick had to give up fighting on his home turf due to an injury. Riding a hot streak, Brian Ebersole steps in for him to face James Head in a welterweight match-up.

Less than two weeks removed from his win over T.J. Waldburger at UFC on FX 4, Ebersole (50-14) is riding an 11-fight winning streak. He’s won all four of his fights since he first stepped into the Octagon early last year.

Head (8-2) lost his Octagon debut last summer, but rebounded at UFC on Fuel TV 2 in April, scoring a first-round submission victory over Papy Ebedi.

The UFC 149 fight card has undergone numerous changes, including the main event. Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch was originally slated to headline the card until Aldo was bitten by the injury bug.

The interim UFC bantamweight championship between Urijah Faber and Renan Barão now headlines UFC 149 on July 21 in Calgary.
