Brenneman-Roberts, Denis-Sandoval Confirmed for UFC on FX 1

Two new bouts have been added to the UFC on FX 1 fight card, as promotion officials Wednesday announced that welterweights Charlie Brenneman and Daniel Roberts will collide at the Jan. 20 event, as will bantamweights Nick Denis and Joseph Sandoval.

Though Sherdog.com previously reported the Brenneman-Roberts matchup, the Denis-Sandoval bout marks a new development for the bill, which now contains 10 announced contests.

Headlined by a lightweight confrontation between Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard, UFC on FX 1 marks the promotion’s first of six planned events on the Fox-owned cable station in 2012. Taking place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., the event is also expected to feature a featherweight scrap between former WEC titlist Mike Thomas Brown and Vagner Rocha, as well as a welterweight affair pitting Duane Ludwig against Josh Neer.

Sandoval, 25, recently suffered the first setback of his young career when he was dismantled by fellow Octagon debutant Walel Watson at UFC Live 6. Prior to the Oct. 1 defeat, Sandoval had been perfect through six career outings, finishing half of his opponents by knockout or submission.

A King of the Cage and Sengoku veteran, Denis (Pictured) will make his UFC debut against Sandoval. Known as “The Ninja of Love,” the 28-year-old bantamweight comes fresh off of a slam knockout over former Bellator talent Nick Mamalis on Oct. 28. The Canadian has never before gone the distance, finishing nine of his 10 career victims by knockout.
