Top welterweight prospect Brandon Thatch (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) today announced he’s withdrawn from a planned UFC Fight Night 49 fight with Jordan Mein – and he provided graphic evidence of the cause.
Thatch suffered a compound fracture of his toe, forcing him out of the Aug. 23 event, which takes place at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. Thatch was expected to face Jordan Mein (28-9 MMA, 2-1 UFC).

Thatch, who was actually a replacement opponent for an injured Thiago Alves, was hoping to build his name in the matchup. The former RFA fighter picked up his second straight UFC win with a first-round TKO of Paulo Thiago at UFC Fight Night 32. In his octagon debut, he TKOd Justin Edwards in the first round at UFC Fight Night 27.
Thatch’s only setback in 12 pro fights is a decision loss to Brandon Magana under the now-defunct Strikeforce banner in 2008.
UFC officials have yet to announce if they’ll be able to secure a replacement opponent for Mein on two-weeks’ notice.
