One of mixed martial arts’ most highly-regarded prospects will return to the Octagon next month.

Elevation Fight Team representative Brandon Thatch will replace the injured Thiago Alves and face Jordan Mein at UFC Fight Night in Tulsa, Okla., on Aug. 23. Promotion officials announced the change on Wednesday; details of Alves’ injury were not disclosed.

UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. dos Anjos” takes place at the BOK Center and is headlined by a lightweight tilt pitting Benson Henderson against Rafael dos Anjos.

Thatch has impressed in his brief UFC tenure, earning first-round stoppages of Justin Edwards and Paulo Thiago in his first two Octagon appearances. “Rukus” has lost just once in 12 professional outings overall, finishing all of his victories inside of a round.

The 24-year-old Mein already has 37 pro bouts to his credit. “Young Gun” is 2-1 in the UFC, capturing a split verdict over Hernani Perpetuo in his last appearance this past April.

Alves recently returned to the cage following a two-year hiatus. It was a successful venture for the American Top Team product, as he outpointed Seth Baczynski at UFC on Fox 11.
