Also hitting their marks were “TUF 12” finalists Jonathan Brookins (154) and Michael Johnson (156), teammates from the show’s Georges St. Pierre-coached squad who will now square off for a six-figure UFC contract. Season 12 semifinalist Nam Phan (146) and WEC veteran Leonard Garcia (145) likewise came in on-point for their featherweight contest, the first televised 145-pound bout in UFC history.
No stranger to “The Ultimate Fighter,” Bonnar (12-7) began his UFC career in 2005 by taking part in the inaugural season of the reality show. While his scrap with Forrest Griffin at the first “TUF” finale is often cited as one of the most memorable and important in UFC history, the “American Psycho” has found mixed results with the promotion ever since, compiling an even UFC record of 6-6. Bonnar will look to gain further traction after halting a three-fight losing skid in his July rematch with Krzysztof Soszynski.
Pokrajac (22-7) is hoping to start a win streak of his own. Following back-to-back losses to Vladimir Matyushenko and James Te Huna in his first two UFC outings, Pokrajac submitted James Irvin via rear-naked choke in the first round of their August bout. The 31-year-old training partner of Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic had won eight straight fights (seven via stoppage) prior to entering the UFC.
Rounding out the televised card -- which airs live on Spike TV Saturday at 9:00 p.m. ET -- will be a middleweight contest between “TUF 3” winner Kendall Grove (186) and former top contender Demian Maia (186), plus a clash of wrestling-based welterweights Rick Story (170) and Johny Hendricks (171).
