In his first fight in more than a year, former Strikeforce heavyweight Bobby Lashley picked up a second-round submission victory in the headliner of Friday’s Titan FC 25 event.
With the fight on the mat, Lashley (8-2) tapped out veteran Kevin Asplund (15-5) with a keylock, who’s now dropped four straight since an eight-year, 15-fight win streak.
The bout aired on AXS TV from Marshall Army Airfield in Fort Riley, Kan.
Lashley, a former WWE champion who hadn’t fought MMA since a decision loss to James Thompson at Super Fight League 3 in May 2012, cruised in the fight. He scored multiple takedowns, moved to dominant positions with ease, and after looking for the crucifix position, ultimately settled on a keylock that drew a tap at the 1:23 mark of the round. Asplund’s offense was extremely limited during the one-sided bout.
Lashley, a decorated amateur wrestler and three-time NAIA nation champion, is now 3-1 in his past four fights, and he’s earned six stoppages in eight career wins.
In the night’s co-headliner, and in a clash of unbeaten lightweight prospects, Jake Lindsey (6-0) landed a quick right and a series of follow-up punches to knock out Zach Freeman (7-1) midway through the first round.
