Bellator MMA announces open tryouts for Philadelphia on Dec. 14

Bellator MMA will host an open fighter tryout on Dec. 14 in Philadelphia, promotion officials recently announced.

The auditions, which will cover all weight classes, take place at Daddis Fight Camps on 1719 Washington Ave. with registration beginning at 10 a.m. ET and tryouts an hour later.

This will not be the first time the promotion has descended upon the “City of Brotherly Love” looking for new talent. Bellator also did a tryout in Philly nearly three years ago.

Previous Bellator open tryouts have yielded current fighters like Jason Butcher, Mike Mucitelli, Jared Downing and Ailton Barbosa. In fact, Mucitelli fights Ryan McCurdy on tonight’s Bellator 107 card in Thackerville, Okla.

Bellator’s matchmaking and talent-scout team of Sam Caplan and former fighter Zach Light will be on hand to evaluate the fighters.

According to Bellator, prospective Bellator fighters must bring their own mouthpiece, protective cup and MMA or boxing gloves. Fighters also need to be unrestricted free agents without current contractual obligations to any other fight promotion. Fighters also must bring an MMA fighter license, or an official mixedmartialarts.com database profile page that includes a photo.

The tryouts will feature one-on-one grappling sessions and a striking session.

Bellator is winding down its ninth season, which airs on Spike TV. Bellator 107 takes place tonight, while Bellator 108 takes place next week in Atlantic City, N.J., and Bellator 109 goes down Nov. 22 in Bethlehem, Pa.
