Bellator 75 Results: Prindle DQ’d After Axe Kick to the Groin, Volkov Punishes Rogers

Thiago SantosIf Thiago Santos and Eric Prindle fight in Bellator there will apparently always be a bizarre ending, and someone will end up singing soprano when the night is over.

When Santos and Prindle first fought at Bellator 59 in 2011, the fight ended with Santos landed a nasty groin strike to Prindle that he could not recover from and the bout was stopped. Prindle ended up moving on to face now retired Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad in early 2012.

Volkov-v-RogersSantos made his first return to action since that fight on Friday night and soon found out exactly what Prindle went through last year.

Santos controlled the early going with his ground work, but after Prindle escaped and with the Brazilian on his back he decided to throw an axe-kick that landed squarely in his opponent’s groin. Santos rolled over in obvious pain and the fight was stopped and Prindle was disqualified for the illegal strike.

Santos moves on in the Bellator heavyweight tournament however it’s at a gruesome cost.

Former Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers attempted to get his career back on track with a second chance given to him from Bellator after a tumultuous year saw him cut from the Zuffa owned promotion after being arrested and charged in a brutal domestic violence case.

Unfortunately for Rogers the comeback story didn’t end the way he wanted because fellow heavyweight Alexander Volkov decided to blast him with strikes for a full 15-minutes instead. Rogers offered up almost no offense or defense for that matter as Volkov continues pummeled the Minnesota based heavyweight.

Volkov won the decision and now moves on in the Bellator heavyweight tournament.

The two final heavyweight match-ups saw Richard Hale put away UFC veteran Mike Wessel, while fellow former UFC competitor Vinicius Queirz beat Mark Holata by submission in the first round.
