Bellator 62 Results: Lightweights Advance; Prindle Wins Title Shot Without a Fight

Bellator Fighting Championships MMA LogoBellator 62 took place at the Laredo Energy Center in Laredo, Texas, on Friday night. Despite having to scratch the same main event fight two weeks in a row, Bellator declared a heavyweight tournament winner, while four lightweights moved one step closer to a title shot.

Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos fought to a no contest due to an incidental low blow in the Bellator Heavyweight Tournament Final in Season 5, so they were set to try it against last week at Bellator 61. Prindle, however, fell ill, causing the fight to be postponed.

Prindle and Santos were then slated to head this week’s Bellator 62, but Santos derailed those plans, and it cost him an opportunity to earn a title shot. Santos came in 12 pounds over weight at Thursday’s weigh-ins, leading Bellator officials to call of the fight and declare Prindle the winner of the heavyweight tournament by default. He will now step up to face heavyweight champion Cole Konrad at a future event.

There was some fighting going on at Bellator 62, however. In this season’s lightweight tournament, Lloyd Woodard, Rick Hawn, Brent Weedman, and Thiago Michael Pereira Silva all won their quarterfinal bouts to move that much closer to a shot at lightweight champion Michael Chandler.
