Although some MMA fans will forever doubt the authenticity of Stephan Bonnar‘s feud with Tito Ortiz (17-11-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA), Bonnar (15-8 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) says the two are really oil and water.
Could that ever change? Will we see a post-fight bro hug and mutual raise of the gloves after they tangle at Bellator 131, and do we even care?
“I think if I tried to like him, it wouldn’t work out,” he told MMAjunkie. “They’d put us together, (and) everything that came out of his mouth would be like, ‘Agh, blarf. This guy’s an (expletive).'”
So far, Bonnar and Ortiz haven’t rubbed elbows since a bizarre staredown at Bellator 123, which culminated in a shoving match between Ortiz, Bonnar and former Ortiz training partner Justin McCully.
Bonnar has said he’s delivering payback on the behalf of those who Ortiz has mistreated over his decade-plus career in MMA. Ortiz has said Bonnar is a “fake” and an “embarrassment to the sport.”
A reconciliation doesn’t seem likely, but stranger things have happened.
Bellator 131 takes place Nov. 15 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. The main card airs on Spike TV.
