Bellator 102 weigh-in results: All 10 tourney fighters make weight

Bellator 102 weigh-ins are in the books, and all 10 of the card’s tournament competitors today successfully made weight.

Bellator 102 takes place Friday at California’s Visalia Convention Center. The main card airs on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com.

The event features the opening round of the Season 9 heavyweight tournament, a four-man affair that includes UFC veterans Cheick Kongo and Lavar Johnson on opposite sides of the bracket. Each will be making their Bellator debuts.

In addition, the card features the bantamweight tournament finals from the 2013 “Summer Series” between Anthony Leone and Rafael Silva, plus the semifinals of the Season 9 middleweight tournament with Jason Butcher vs. Mikkel Parlo and Perry Filkins vs. Brennan Ward.

Kongo and his opponent, Mark Godbeer, initially stood a couple of feet apart. But then they were moved closer to each other, and with their foreheads touching, they had to be separated without incident when Kongo pushed his forehead forward just before they broke.

“It’s a really good thing. But it’s exciting to (go after) the belt – and (Godbeer) is my first step,” Kongo said.

Johnson, who like Kongo is a sizable favorite and by oddsmakers’ standards is expected to meet his fellow UFC vet in the tourney finals, said his fight against Vinicius Queiroz should feature the proverbial fireworks.

“It’s not going the distance. We’re going to get in there and get after it, and one of us is going to sleep – I promise that,” Johnson said.
