vinicius-queiroz.jpgThe 12-bout lineup for next week’s Bellator 102 lineup is complete, and it includes a heavyweight tournament bout between Lavar “Big” Johnson and Vinicius “Spartan” Queiroz.

Johnson (17-7 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Queiroz (6-3 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) join Mark Godbeer (8-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Cheick Kongo (18-8-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in the semifinals of Bellator’s four-man Season 9 heavyweight tournament.

“Bellator 102: Godbeer vs. Kongo” takes place Oct. 4 at California’s Visalia Convention Center. Like all of Bellator’s Season 9 events, the evening’s main card airs on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com.

Following a nine-fight run for the UFC and Strikeforce, Johnson fights for the first time under the Bellator MMA banner. The heavy-handed slugger owns 15 knockouts in his 17 career victories.

Meanwhile, Queiroz looks to rebound from a November 2012 loss to Alexander Volkov at Bellator 80.

Additionally, Bellator 102 hosts the finals of the promotion’s Summer Series bantamweight tournament final with Anthony Leone (13-5 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) vs. Rafael Silva (20-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA). Leone earned his spot in the finals with a submission win over Frank Baca at July’s Bellator 97 event. Silva scored a submission over Rodrigo Lima at that same event.

The evening’s preliminary card includes lightweights Cain Carrizosa (4-0) vs. Juan Quesada (2-1), lightweights Jonny Carson (11-6) vs. Bryan Travers (14-3), lightweights Brandon Girtz (8-3) vs. Poppie Martinez (27-8), heavyweights Javy Ayala (5-3) vs. Thiago Santos (11-2), featherweights Scott Cleve (13-3) vs. Isaac DeJesus (10-5-1), welterweights Kenny Ento (13-12) vs. Michael Page (5-0) and heavyweights Brandon Cash (7-3) vs. William Richey (10-1).

For years, light heavyweight has been the UFC's marquee division. While there is a certain cache in being the heavyweight champion of the world, with due respect to the likes of Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski, this was the division that mattered most. Frank Shamrock got the stone rolling nicely with a memorable dark-ages reign. But it was Tito Ortiz who brought the sport into the light, dominating in the cage and becoming the first star of the Zuffa era. His were enormous shoes to fill, but Chuc more

It's 1985. Wham! is the hottest thing in music, and movies like The Breakfast Club and The Goonies are reinventing the "random kids come of age, often while wearing awesome '80s clothes" genre. The jungles of Brazil are home to no-holds-barred combat, but America knows nothing of it aside from what they see outside the bar on a Saturday night. And Scott Coker just founded Strikeforce. It's a kickboxing promotion, a modest West Coast thrill for martial arts fans to be run by Coker, an experienced more
