Baroni-Yoshida, Gregor Gracie Added to One FC’s Sept. 3 Debut

Former UFC welterweights Phil Baroni and Yoshiyuki Yoshida will clash on Sept. 3 as part of the inaugural offering from One Fighting Championship.

Officials from the Singapore-based upstart promotion Monday confirmed the bout, along with the full card for “Champion vs. Champion,” which will take place at the 12,000-seat Singapore Indoor Stadium. The show’s headliner will see top Filipino lightweight Eduard Folayang take on Danish muay Thai stylist Ole Laursen.

The event will be broadcast to a reported 500 million homes throughout Asia by ESPN Star Sports and MediaCorp; North American broadcast plans have not been announced.

An 11-year veteran of the sport, Baroni (Pictured) recently snapped a three-fight losing skid. After consecutive losses to Amir Sadollah and Brad Tavares saw the “New York Bad Ass” released by the UFC, the 35-year-old righted his course with a March decision over the vastly less experienced Nick Nolte at Titan Fighting Championship 17.

Yoshida, 37, was handed his Octagon walking papers in May 2010, after back-to-back defeats to Anthony Johnson and Michael Guymon dropped Yoshida’s UFC record to 2-3. In his September 2010 Bellator Fighting Championships debut, “Zenko” was upset by Cleveland-based knockout artist Chris Lozano, who usurped Yoshida’s expected spot in Bellator’s most recent welterweight tournament.

Also added to the One FC bill was 24-year-old welterweight Gregor Gracie, who will tangle with Chinese sanda champ Wang Sai, and “The Ultimate Fighter 5” cast member Andy Wang, who meets Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Zorobabel Moreira at lightweight. Rounding out the main card is a featherweight affair between URCC titleholder Eric Kelly and Singapore-based American Mitch Chilson.
