Bantamweights Jeff Curran, Johnny Eduardo to Meet at UFC on Fuel TV 3

Bantamweights Jeff Curran and Johnny Eduardo will likely return to the Octagon on May 15, squaring off at UFC on Fuel TV 3.

Headlined by a pivotal featherweight contest pitting Dustin Poirier against Chan Sung Jung, UFC on Fuel TV 3 marks the promotion’s second trip to the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va., and the first since UFC Fight Night 20 in January 2010.

Sherdog.com confirmed the Curran-Eduardo matchup with a source close to the event on Tuesday following an initial report from MMAJunkie.com. The event airs live on Fox-owned cable station Fuel TV.

Formerly a World Extreme Cagefighting staple, Curran challenged for Urijah Faber’s WEC featherweight title in 2007, falling by submission to “The California Kid.” After suffering three more WEC defeats, the 14-year pro rattled off four wins in five fights to earn a shot in the UFC’s bantamweight division. In his first Octagon appearance since 2004, “The Big Frog” was bested by Scott Jorgensen via unanimous decision at UFC 137.

Eduardo, meanwhile, had an 11-fight winning streak snapped in his Octagon debut, dropping a unanimous verdict to fellow Brazilian Raphael Assuncao at UFC 134 this past August. A 15-year veteran, the Nova Uniao representative has finished 19 of his 25 career victims and holds 13 submission wins to his credit.
