Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Fabricio Werdum official for UFC on FUEL TV 10

fabricio-werdum-17.jpgAs expected, opposing “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2? coaches Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (34-7-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Fabricio Werdum (16-5-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) will meet in the headlining bout of June’s UFC on FUEL TV 10 event.

The long-rumored booking was confirmed during Tuesday’s new edition of “UFC Tonight.”

The promotion has yet to officially announce a location for the June 8 event, but it’s expected to take place at Ginasio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Brazil.

“The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2? debuts March 17 in Brazil on Globo. U.S. broadcast plans have yet to be announced, but the series is expected to be available in North American as an online stream.

As with the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” the new edition of the series begins with an elimination round of fights, which are expected to be featured in the first two episodes of the series. All winners of the those fights become official cast members. They then compete in a single-elimination tournament, which is the focus of the reality show’s regular-season run.

Nogueira and Werdum serve as head coaches on the show and then oppose each other in the cage at UFC on FUEL TV 10, which also includes the tournament finale for “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2.”

The traditional season-ending coach-vs.-coach fight actually marks a rematch between the two fighters; Nogueira handed Werdum a decision loss at a 2006 PRIDE event in the opening round of an open-weight grand prix.

Since then, Nogueira has won a UFC interim heavyweight title but has alternated between wins and losses in his past seven fights. He most recently submitted Dave Herman at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro.

Werdum, meanwhile, signed with the UFC after PRIDE, then moved to Strikeforce (where he upset Antonio Silva and Fedor Emelianenko), and then ultimately returned to the UFC earlier this year. He’s on a 5-1 run, which included a TKO win over Mike Russow at UFC 147 in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
