Anthony Johnson more than down to fight Alexander Gustafsson

Anthony Johnson (18-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) is tight-lipped about his next fight, but he can admit he has his eye on Alexander Gustafsson (16-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC).

Then again, he has his eye on everybody in the light heavyweight division.

“I’m down to fight whoever,” he today told MMAjunkie Radio. “If they want to give me Alex, that’s fine. We’re all going to have to fight eventually, one day. It’s bound to happen, so why not?”

UFC President Dana White said a fight between the two standouts could take place in the near future. In an interview with UFC.com, he said Johnson “makes sense” as Gustafsson’s next opponent while deflecting critics – including “The Mauler” – who said his rematch with champ Jon Jones should take priority over a grudge match with Daniel Cormier at UFC 182 in January.

Johnson will happily accept the fight with Gustafsson under all but one circumstance – that it takes place in the onetime title challenger’s backyard of Sweden.

“I’ll hate it, but alright, I guess I’m going to Sweden to whip some ass,” he said with a laugh.

A conversation about Johnson’s future took place today, the fighter reported, and news about his next fight could come in the next 72 hours. Johnson declined to reveal further specifics.

“We haven’t talked main events yet – we just talked about potential opponents and people I’m for sure going to fight,” he said. “We’re just taking it one day at a time. I could (have an announcement soon). We’ll see what happens.”

“I can’t say nothing,” he added. “I don’t throw bones – I throw bombs.”

Johnson’s power was once again on display in his most recent octagon appearance. He took on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at this past month’s UFC on FOX 12 and stopped the former PRIDE standout in a cool 44 seconds with a series of clubbing punches. In his return to the UFC after a two-year absence, he halted the rise of Phil Davis with a unanimous decision.

Now a light heavyweight after a botched run at welterweight, Johnson said he is unhurt and ready to fight as soon as possible.

“I’ll fight ‘em all,” he later added. “They’re all going to be victims.”
