All those Ronda Rousey-themed UFC 207 promos? Joe Rogan finds them 'extremely bizarre'

According to Joe Rogan, Saturday night marked the first time he’s watched a UFC event alone in a long time. So, he took some of his hotter takes to Twitter.

The veteran UFC broadcaster tuned in for UFC on FOX 22, an event that Mike Goldberg and Brian Stann called from cageside at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. Rogan had the night off, so he got to watch the network-televised event like the rest of us at home.

And during the countless breaks in action on the FOX, FS1 and UFC Fight Pass portions of the card, he saw plenty of promos for this month’s year-end UFC 207 blockbuster. And in those promos, he noticed a theme: a heavy offering of ex-champ Ronda Rousey – and a distinct lack of footage of her opponent and reigning women’s bantamweight titleholder, Amanda Nunes (via Twitter):

Nunes (13-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC), who’s No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA women’s bantamweight rankings, takes on No. 2-ranked Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in UFC 207’s pay-per-view headliner, which takes place Dec. 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It’s Rousey’s first fight since November 2015, when she suffered a title loss – the first defeat of her career – to Holly Holm. The return of one of MMA’s biggest stars at UFC 207 has resulted in a heavy dose of promotion, including the Rousey-themed promo above.

Other UFC 207 promos played throughout the UFC on FOX 22 broadcast, and Rousey was again front and center. However, Rogan’s mention of her possible overexposure in those promos did result in some objections from fans, including a few who said Rogan was partially responsible (via Twitter):

In fairness to the UFC’s promotional efforts, Rousey is surely the biggest draw on a PPV card that also features bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz (22-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) vs. Cody Garbrandt (10-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC). Additionally, Rousey is also a solid -160 favorite over Nunes at the sports books.

Rogan’s insight didn’t fall on deaf ears, though; soon, his tweet was on the frontage of Reddit – no small feat with a fairly niche topic like MMA.
