A heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Ben Rothwell has been scheduled for UFC Fight Night Connecticut on Sept. 5, officials confirmed on Wednesday evening.
The bout is added to the developing Fight Night card, which takes place at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut. The fight was first reported by FOXSports.com.
Overeem (37-13, 1 NC) will come into the bout after returning to the win column in his last outing. Against Frank Mir, Overeem went three rounds and won a unanimous decision, stopping a two-fight losing streak at UFC 169 last February.
Rothwell (33-9) last fought at UFC 164 in August 2013, earning a technical knockout of Brandon Vera. Following the bout, the winning fighter revealed that he tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone and was suspended nine months by the UFC. The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional services, which oversaw the event, gave Rothwell an administrative warning.
UFC Fight Night Connecticut recently added other fights to the card, which includes a middleweight tilt between Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
