Alexis Vila vs. Josh Rettinghouse added to next week's WSOF 6 event

alexis-vila-4.jpgA fight card that was already thought to be full now has another bout on its lineup as Cuban Olympic wrestler Alexis Vila (13-3) meets Josh “The Finisher” Rettinghouse (9-2) in a bantamweight affair at World Series of Fighting 6.

MMAjunkie.com today learned of the new pairing from sources close to the fighters and subsequently confirmed the plans with promotion officials.

An official announcement is expected shortly for the new contest, which takes place on the evening’s now-seven-fight MMAjunkie.com-streamed preliminary card, which precedes the four-bout NBC Sports Network broadcast main card.

Featuring a welterweight title fight, the first championship bout in the promotion’s history, between Josh Burkman and Steve Carl, “World Series of Fighting 6: Burkman vs. Carl” takes place Oct. 26 at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla.

The 42-year-old Vila is currently ranked No. 15 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA flyweight rankings. A two-time world champion wrestler and 1996 Olympic bronze medalist, the American Top Team fighter is a four-time Bellator MMA veteran who lost in the finals of the promotion’s Season 5 bantamweight tournament. Most recently, he’s built a two-fight win streak under Florida’s Championship Fighting Alliance banner.

Meanwhile, Rettinghouse is a 23-year-old prospect who competes out of Spokane, Wash. A jiu-jitsu specialist, Rettinghouse has earned six of his nine career wins by way of submission, with another two ended by way of knockout. The bout marks his first outside of the Pacific Northwest regional circuit.

With the addition to the card, the World Series of Fighting 6 lineup now includes:

MAIN CARD (NBC Sports Network, 9 p.m. ET)

PRELIMINARY CARD (MMAjunkie.com, 6 p.m. ET)
