UFC officials on Tuesday added a lightweight bout between undefeated Alan Patrick and John Makdessi to the UFC 169 fight card.
UFC 169 is slated for Feb. 1 in Newark, N.J. The Super Bowl weekend event is headlined by a bantamweight unification bout between returning champion Dominick Cruz and interim titleholder Renan BarĂ£o. Jose Aldo puts his featherweight belt on the line against Ricardo Lamas in the co-main event.
Patrick (11-0) is making his second start in the UFC. The Brazilian made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 29 in Brazil in early October, scoring a TKO stoppage victory over Garett Whiteley.
His opponent, Makdessi (12-2), is at the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to UFC experience. The Canadian has been fighting for the UFC since late 2010, racking up a 5-2 record in the Octagon.
Makdessi is currently on a three-fight winning streak that includes victories over Sam Stout, Daron Cruickshank, and Renee Forte.
