Thales Leites, Demian Maia, and Sonnen all showed that Silva isn't as dangerous or as well rounded as people often say he is. It's probably true to say that Silva relied too heavily on his talent. Perhaps he never developed well rounded defensive skills and tactics because he usually never needed to. GSP on the other hand is maybe less talented, but has probably done a better job of living up to his personal potential. GSP's two losses, and his generally more evenly matched opponents, have kept him sharper, especially defensively and tactically. If Anderson silva is the best race car on the planet with just an average professional driver and average professional pit-crew, GSP is an average race car with the best professional driver (and best pit crew). Weidman has an excellent mental game, and seems to be in peek physical condition, but I don't believe he's as talented as Silva, and his striking skill is certainly quite inferior to Silva's, and to many good strikers in the UFC for that matter.
